About Artometry

Artometry is a public collection of pages that SPIRA SUURA, an artist working with mathematics, has come across and keeps returning to while making work.

Why make it public?

The mathematics behind a piece, forms found in nature, techniques worth trying, artists who inspire, the practicalities of getting work out into the world — the material an artist relies on is scattered across personal sites, researchers’ pages, videos and tool manuals. Although it is organised for SPIRA SUURA’s own use, it may help others who make or study work where mathematics, science and art meet, so each entry carries a description anyone can read.

What is collected

  • Mathematics: orbits and curves, geometry, fractals, number theory and modular arithmetic, complex functions, dynamical systems and more
  • Natural forms & patterns: plant forms, growth and pattern formation, crystals, light and colour, vibration and waves, celestial orbits
  • Technology & techniques: generative art, shaders, simulation, plotters, data visualization and more
  • Showing & selling: printing, framing, open calls, selling, rights and editions

Alongside whole sites, individual pages — articles, papers, videos — are listed too. The criteria are set out in the Selection Policy.

Three ways in

  • Discover: newly collected pages, the ones most often revisited, and random encounters.
  • Explore: hierarchical categories across four fields, filters by medium and technology, and search.
  • Connect: relationships between entries that share categories, media and technologies.

Who runs it

Artometry is run by SPIRA SUURA. SPIRA SUURA’s own work is shown at spirasuura.com, not here. If you know a page worth adding, please let us know via the Contact page.
